Irish Cailin’s Photoblog

Busy Busy week, so glad it’s over. and I’m still trying to kick this cold!! It’s tough to get over a cold when you have no rest!

Let start from the beginning… this major bug is plaguing my office, everyone is sick! I was off for a day and a half at the end of last week. I would have called in Monday too if it weren’t for payroll and my boss being out on vacation… which is a headache in itself because i have to cover for her being out as well as my own work, plus our receptionist was just fired so i have to help out up there too. Basically i’m doing 3 ppls jobs last week which brings the stress level up a bit… so anyway…

My hubby was bugging me to go see The Dark Knight with him, he’s been talking about it for months. he wanted to go opening day but I was sick and stayed home from work and everything, i wasn’t up to going. He didn’t bother me to go too much but kinda got mad by Sunday when I still turned him down. Monday asked and I said no again and Tuesday comes around and he’s getting really antsy because everyone at work is talking about it now so I finally give in. and do you know how long that movie is?? We were out until 1030, way too late when you’re sick and need your rest. But that was one kick ass movie!! It was awesome! if you haven’t seen it you’re missing out!

Wednesday I could actually rest up a little. Thursday was our quarterly office outing. We went bowling. And I kinda had to go since I’ve missed the past 2 outings… plus I had all the money because the boss left early for a minor emergency before i could hand over the money so I couldn’t back out even though I was feeling awful. But I am glad I went! It was fun, I hadn’t bowled in a long time. but this place was in the middle of, and I quote “the gayest city around here.” GREAT. now this is as controversial as I am going to get on here probably, and please don’t hate me for it, but that is one lifestyle I am no ok with. I dont discriminate, and I’m not necessarily going to think any less of you if you are, but I just don’t associate with those people. I can’t say I wouldn’t be friends with someone if they were gay, and if one of my friends told me they were gay it’s not like I would stop being friends with them because of it, but I am kind of picky with who i assoicate with and let get close to me and I dont think I attract that type of personality. and yes i could be more politically correct and say “homosexual” instead of gay, but gay is just shorter to type… haha. disclaimers aside, and back on topic… everyone in the bowling alley besides the people I worked with were gay (well i dont know of any that are in my work group but the guy who set us up there is friends with the owners of the place so who knows, but i’m not speculating…) Oh and if you would like to witness the grand scheme of things, here is what we found… I did not take this pic, one of the girls took my camera because she thought it was the funniest “couple” there…

Back to the bowling!… it always takes me a game to warm up. I only got 75 my first game! but I was not in last place either! haha. 2nd game I was on a hot streak at first but then slowed down and ended up in the high 80’s. and the 3rd game just blew up and broke 100! I got a 102 haha. I was excited, ok. Then afterwards I even got sucked into to going and getting food with a small group of people. But this pushed us getting home at 11pm and not sleeping til after 12! Crazy. And I had a dinner to go to after work so I couldn’t even go home and chill…

Friday night was great and worth it even though I had a rough week and was tired from the night before. I had never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse before! Let me tell you, it was an awesome experience and one of a kind! First, they have a dress code! I’ve never been to a restaurant with a dresscode before! -which is an experience all in it’s own. And the best part was it was free for me lol. One of my account managers said once he reached his sales goal he’d take the team out, and I was included which was really nice because I don’t contribute the way the others do to reach that goal since I’m not a “producer.” But I am extremely honored to be included with them.

So off we go to this Brazlian Steakhouse. If you’ve never been to one, here’s how it works. It’s basically an all you can eat type of place. They have a small salad bar with salads, pastas, bread, veggies. Then they bring out small dishes to the table like mashed potatoes (which were really creamy and good, almost soupy though) and some kind of weird things I wasn’t familiar with haha, and then the “gauchos” would come around with these sticks full of meat and carve some off for you right there at the table. Now the trick is the little chips you have on your table. Each person has a chip that is orange on one side and black on the other. The gauchos will only offer you meat if you have your chip on orange. Otherwise they just stay away. But if you have it up they will come back and back and back again offering you more and more choices. And on each stick goes from rare to well done, you can still choose how you want it cooked. You really can pig out a place like that, you just want to try a little of everything!

so another late night last night! And today we went to see The Dark Knight for a 2nd time!! No idea why the hubby wanted to see it again! He never wants to go to the movies but he wants to go see one we’ve just seen less than a week ago?? So I obliged… but he had to really talk me into it!

and this is officially the longest blog I’ve ever written… haha. Hope some of you are still hanging on at least! :)

{July 13, 2008}   My Car is Dying!!

My poor little car… We’ve had some good memories together and she slowly falling apart! I got her my sophomore year of college, slightly used. She’s a gold 2000 Ford Focus. It was my mom’s car, but when I threatened that I wouldn’t be able to make as many trips home from college with my ‘96 Ford Escort, Big Red, they gave her to me in 2001 ;-) It was a nice upgrade at the time. Now with about 90,000 miles or so, I’ve had her in for service a few times. Of course there’s the normal tires, and brakes that need to be changed. But then the alignment has always been off even after they “fixed it.” My air went out twice now(just this summer), and it’s staying out as we’re going to trade it in soon and it cost more to fix it than my car is worth… (and its the summer… in Florida!!) my back window won’t roll down, I have to fill my tires with air every week because they are slowly losing air… and just today… she died. I was at the gas station and she wouldn’t start up. You turn the key and click-click-click-click she goes. Luckily it was just the battery and my hubby came and gave me a jump. She started up right away, just need the little shock to get her goin…

Of course I could have treated her a little better. Given more regular baths, rotated the tires more often, used premium gasoline instead of unleaded, given more frequent oil changes and not waiting til the last minute, found a place to live where I didn’t have to drive over a million speed bumps at least twice a day… and I didn’t even give her a name! What can you call a gold car anyway!? (think i’ll get too attached if i give her a proper name now? haha)There are lots of things I could have done better, if only I was more into cars and I had my own house to do things ourself so it wouldn’t cost us so much… but alas, I did not do those thing and now she is leaving me…

Now I have the burden of finding a new car- which i like And is affordable and practical, having a car payment! (yikes), and trading this girl in… I don’t even know where to start!

{July 6, 2008}   I passed up cookies, what?

Chewy Chips Ahoy

I can’t believe I was able to pass up the buy one get one free cookie sale! and Chips Ahoy at that, my favorite! I am a sucker for buy one get one free as it is. And i was totally craving cookies last night too.

But somehow i managed to walk by not one, but 2 cookie displays (since it was in the cookie/cracker isle and then the end cap at the end of the isle… Obviously it was a great sale to be on the end cap!) I have a major sweet tooth too. But I figured since we just joined the gym it would be pointless if we had not one, but two packages of cookies in the house… so I stayed strong and kept walking. Boy did it take all my strength to do that…

CHIPS AHOY

{July 4, 2008}   Happy F’In 4th of July!

I’m very disappointed with this 4th of July… It’s the first time in like 8 yrs that we actually had plans to do something… last year for example we were flying back to MI for  our friends wedding, so no plans there!  So we go to the  beach and we’re there for only about a 1/2 hour before it starts sprinkling. This guy, who seems like the most optimistic person I’ve ever met, kept saying, “it will pass, don’t worry guys it will pass.” So we sit and sit and get wetter and wetter. Then it starts coming down a little harder and we’re thinking about calling it a night, but still hoping it will clear up. We’ve been sitting there getting wet for well over an hour now. Then all of a sudden lightning starts to light up the sky and we decide it’s best to leave! We are, afterall, on the beach with big palm trees everywhere and ppl sitting under umbrellas… best to get out of there! I did see a few fireworks driving home, just the little ones ppl set off themselves, no show or anything. and now it stopped raining over here were we live so a bunch of people are out setting them off now, but it’s just not the same! It’s not the “show” I was expecting…what a disappointment! Story of my life…. story of my life…

(the rainy car ride home…)

I seriously feel like my arms are going to fall off they’re that sore!! HA.  The reason: well, we finally joined a gym! Yea Us! haha. If you know me, you know thats a big feat for me… I’m a total germaphobe… ’nuff said right?? and also get self conscious exercising in public… yeah gym not good for a person like me. I like the nice comfy private home exercises… but the hard part is I don’t do it enough! SO… we checked out a place last weekend and then since we didn’t have time because of the car issue Monday or Tuesday, we finally got in there to sign up on Wednesday after work.  All the cardio machines were taken by the time we were able to use  the gym, so we went to the basketball court to shoot around and get warmed up (which I’m sure the hubby was really happy about he LOVES bball and it’s much more exciting then a treadmill or something). Then we did a bunch of the weight bench exercises, focusing more on the legs, or whatever was open at the time… Thursday Curt got off early because the day before a holiday so we got in there earlier and it was pretty empty! So I got to do the bike for cardio and then we did arm exercises with every single machine! and i’m taking about…10 different ones or so, 3 sets on each thing. then an abs and a back machine just for kicks haha. I got home and i could barely lift my hands to my face to wash my face! my arms were shaking lol. today they’re not AS bad as it was when I first got home, but man are they sore!! Luckily the place is closed today for 4th of July LOL so we get a break… well from weights anyway, we walked to target which takes 2 hrs there and back… so our legs got a good workout today! but yeah im going to go do something now that doesn’t require the use my arms…but i dont know that will be… maybe a quick movie haha.

{July 1, 2008}   Date Nights!

So not only did my husband and I go on a “date” finally but we had 2 date nights in a row!! OOOOOO. lol. We never go out anymore, never to the movies (we’d rather rent and eat in and watch it, cheaper and more comfy) and we never go out to eat at restaurants (too expensive and we’d rather just grab fast food and go home and watch the movies we rented lol). But the hubby had to take his car in to get fixed this weekend and they didn’t fix it right away so he had to go back Monday to pick it up. There’s a mall by the dealership so we were going to go there and just eat at the food court. BUT it wasn’t fixed… another story for another time… so I think he was really disappointed so he wanted to go out anyway but not to the mall since we had to go that way the next day. So, we decided to try this place that I’ve been wanting to go to since we moved here A Year Ago! Everyone raves about it, its right on the beach, it’s called Aruba. and you have a great view of the beach from inside. It was actually really good too! The bread is delicious! it has some honey glaze on it. yumyum. so anyway… it was really nice to get out and do something, especially on a work night! Then tonight we go to pick his car up because it’s finally done and we were going to just eat in the food court (totally not like us  to eat out so much btw!) but nothing looked good, so driving home we found this little pizza joint that we thought we’d try out. it was a cute little pizzeria and very yummy pizza and cheese bread! 2 thumbs up! and also 2 thumbs up to 2 date nights! Yea! :)
